Description
This is my personal Munich Helles recipe based on 'significant first hand sampling' of every version of this beer I could find while travelling across Germany. The entire grain bill is made up of Weyermann® malt, most of it being Barke® Pilsner malt, a two-row heirloom variety of malt bought back from 'retirement' specifically for its more intense flavor, lingering malty sweetness, and enhanced body and mouthfeel. The remaining components were chosen to compliment each other to give a finished beer with a solid malt backbone with a clean and crisp finish.
The hopping schedule might puzzle some purists, as rather than using the traditional German hops I chose to bitter with Green Bullet and Nelson Sauvin hops, (both from NZ and both derived from Smoothcone hops) with a small flameout addition of each to provide a light herbal aroma in the glass. Bittered to ~20IBU, it is very balanced, refreshing & easy to enjoy on a hot summers day.
As always, this is the grain bill only – so you will need to add some Nelson Sauvin and Green Bullet to your cart, and you could use Lalbrew Diamond or Mangrove Jacks M76 Bavarian Lager if you want a traditional lager ferment and have the temperature control and time, Lalbrew Nova if you want a good result but do not have temp control or time.
If you prefer a more traditional hops, chat to me on the phone or at the front counter and I can provide a suitable hopping schedule using Hallertau Mittelfruh or similar hop imported from straight from the Motherland.
